Fresh Air Fund - looking for host families

As a Big Sister in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, I am well aware that many children just don't have simple advantages that some families take for granted. Children living in New York City often cannot imagine what it is like to be in the open air of the countryside -- their restricted circumstances just don't provide them that perspective on life. I have now been made aware of a program that helps New York City children enjoy the experience of the country and suburbs in the Northeastern part of the U.S.

The host families who join the program will open their homes for a few weeks in the summer and children growing up in New York City's toughest neighborhoods will have an experience -- probably life-changing -- to enjoy the Fresh Air Experience.

This program has been so successful that more than 85% of these children are re-invited to stay with their host family, year after year.

You may think that this is a small event in a child's life - but I can assure you that children who have not been exposed to life outside of an inner city environment, will open their eyes to new understandings of life and the excitement of opportunities that never crossed their minds before.

After all, if we want the future to be reflected in a more humanistic way than we sometimes witness today, never forget that the Youth are Our Future.
